Apple will not release a black color option for the iPhone 18 Pro, according to leaker Instant Digital. This marks the second consecutive year that Apple has excluded a black variant from its premium iPhone lineup.
In 2023, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max were also not available in black, instead coming in silver, deep blue, and cosmic orange. The decision is believed to be influenced by issues with the anodized aluminum finish, which was noted for scratching easily, leading to visibility issues with darker colors.
Despite the absence of a black version, cosmic orange gained popularity and contributed to Apple’s record fiscal quarter performance. However, darker hues like deep blue highlighted scratches, prompting concerns referred to as “scratchgate.”

Apple is reportedly developing a “Deep Red” color for the iPhone 18 Pro, marking the first red option since the iPhone 14 in the (PRODUCT)RED series. The base model of the iPhone 18 is expected to include a black option.
The upcoming iPhone Fold, slated for launch by the end of the year, is anticipated to feature traditional colors, avoiding vibrant options in favor of standard shades like space gray and black.
Apple may still revise its color offerings ahead of the iPhone 18 launch in September. As the situation develops, further announcements could alter the current lineup.
