Meta is expanding the AI-powered summaries feature on WhatsApp to include unread context across multiple chats, according to WABetaInfo. The latest TestFlight build indicates that users will soon be able to view a summary of unread messages across various chats.
This development marks a shift from the current capability, which provides AI summaries for unread messages within individual chats. The summarization process will continue to be managed by WhatsApp’s Private Processing system, ensuring user privacy.
The app will incorporate a “Get a summary” button at the top of the Chats tab when the “Unread” filter is selected. This change aims to facilitate easier access to a concise overview of multiple unread messages.

WhatsApp is actively exploring this feature, known as a unified unread chat summary feature, which is still under development. Currently, users in select regions can generate summaries by tapping the “summarize” button within individual conversations, condensing multiple messages into a brief overview.
Private Processing generates a secure summary while preserving user privacy, crafting a clear overview of conversations without compromising sensitive information. This feature is in development for both iOS and Android versions of WhatsApp, suggesting imminent availability for beta testers.
